Fighter Practices [top] |
Don’t know how to fight with a foam / latex sword? Perhaps you’re unsure of a particular rule or game effect. Then Fighter Practices are for you! Designed as an easy way for new players to learn, and for existing players to refine their skills, Fighter Practices are open events - meaning they are free - and available to the public (with a signed insurance waiver). That’s right! You don’t have to be a member of NERO Houston to experience what all the fuss is about. Whether you want to practice your fighting or spell-casting skills, have a rules clarification question, or just want to watch a bunch of people hit each other with foam weapons, we’ve got something for everyone. No blankets are currently earned at Fighter Practices. Costumes (aka “Garb”) are not required, but encouraged. Showing up in costume, training new players, or in other ways contributing to the Chapter may earn your character-of-choice Goblin Stamps.

New Player Orientations are designed to assist new players in learning the rules of the game. New Player Orientations are typically held at Fighter Practices, or at the beginning of a Weekend Event. Four Modules are currently in development, and once completed, we will encourage all new players to participate. Once all four Modules are completed, Players receive 200 Goblin Stamps. The modules are as listed below:

Tavern Nights [top] |

“The room is dark, dimly lit by candles and lanterns, and shadows play over the walls. Whispered conversations and hushed tones convey an air of mystery as you move through the room towards the bar. The barkeep looks up as you approach. ‘What’ll it be, m’lord?’” A Tavern Night is a time for roleplay, for intrigue, and for politics. Rarely will you see much combat, if any, as these events are primarily for advancing plotlines, or introducing new ones, in non-confrontational ways. Alliances may be formed (and broken), trades and sales of all kinds will be made, and deeds most foul may be committed by strangers. Tavern Nights are typically between 3 and 4 hours in length; players receive a quarter-blanket for this event. Paying loose doubles this to a half-blanket, as normal.
A currently active NERO Membership is required to participate. |

Adventure Days [top] |

Adventure Days (also known as Module Days) are typically held on a Saturday, and are anywhere from 6 - 8 hours long, with multiple modules taking up the time in various lengths. Usually 2 or 3 modules are held for players; these modules are in-game. These modules can be in regard to any current or new plotlines, or completely separate from existing plot. Costuming is required! Players will receive a half-blanket for the full day (of no less than six hours) or a quarter-blanket for a half-day (2 - 6 hours). Paying loose doubles your blanket, as normal.

Weekend Events [top] |
The NERO Weekend Event is the premier activity for NERO members. Starting on a Friday afternoon or evening, the game will last till mid-day on Sunday. That’s right - 40 hours(ish) of solid role-playing, combat, spellcasting and general fun! If you’re not completely exhausted after a 3-day event, Plot hasn’t done their job! Then there’s the inevitable after-party, usually at a local Applebee’s, Chili’s, or other standard-fare restaurant, where we all gather round and replay the havoc of the weekend with tales that grow by the telling. Click here for a list of things you’ll need to bring to a weekend event. These are really the side-items, though: The most important component is your imagination! Cost may change (most likely it’ll go down or stay the same) once we have a final site chosen for our events. Players will receive a half-blanket per game day (or one full blanket for an entire 2-day event), and as usual this is doubled if paying loose. Extended weekend events will run from either Thursday evening (if a Holiday Friday) to Sunday afternoon, or Friday evening (if a Holiday Monday) to Monday afternoon.
An active NERO Membership is required to participate. NERO Houston is currently running “Alternate Event Schedule” Weekend Events, wherein an Adventure Day and Tavern Night are combined for a discounted price. |
